Ancient Theatre of Dodona: Visitor’s Guide
Everything you need to know before visiting the Ancient Theatre of Dodona: what to see, how much time to allow, when to go, and where to stay near the archaeological site.

Ancient Theatre of Dodona: one of Epirus’ most important archaeological sites
The Ancient Theatre of Dodona is located within the archaeological site of Dodona, at the foot of Mount Tomaros, near Ioannina. It was built in the early 3rd century BC, during the reign of King Pyrrhus of Epirus, and could accommodate around 18,000 spectators.
Along with the theatre, it is worth exploring the Oracle of Zeus, the Sacred House, the Bouleuterion, the Prytaneion, and the other monuments preserved in the valley of Dodona.
How much time do you need for your visit?
To see the Ancient Theatre and the rest of the sanctuary at a relaxed pace, allow approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.
If you are particularly interested in the history of Dodona, you can also combine your visit with the Archaeological Museum of Ioannina, where important finds from the site are preserved.
